The varieties listed herein are positively the best stock that can be procured anywhere, at any price, as these tubers are not forced, or from over propagated stock, and are GUARANTEED to be true to name, healthy, and full of life, vim, and vitality.

ADELE HENDERSON F. D. (Rindfleisch-Parrella)—Color, citron yellow with stromtian yellow at center with a light flush deep old rose. Very pleasing combination of colors, and form with petals rounding back to make large ball. 7½ to 9 inches in diameter, from 5 to 6 inches in depth. Blooms from July until frost. Very prolific bloomer, a very long keeper after cutting. One of the best commercial type dahlias as well as exhibition since Jane Cowl. Height, 4½ to 5 feet. Received a certificate at Storrs, 1941. Also an Honor Roll Dahlia. Tuber $2.00


AGLOW (Dahliadel)—This beautiful Informal Decorative is warm Amber Yellow, heavily suffused Scarlet on the center area of each petal, and is enhanced with a golden sheen overall. A fine open grower, producing deep, full blooms on long, erect stems without disbudding. Blooms easily average 10 x 6 inches and the bush is about 6 ft. tall. One of the most appealing of all fall shades. Tuber $3.50 Plant $1.50


ALFRED LUNT F. D. (Parrella)—Exhibition as well as commercial, Height of plant 6 feet. Size of bloom, 8 inches by 6 inches, or better. Color, currant red to scarlet. The petals of this remarkable dahlia when fully opened fall almost to the stem and the formation is almost like a ball dahlia. The flower is of very good substance and stands out with its brilliant color. Cane-like stem holding the flower facing and on top. Tuber $2.00


ALL AMERICAN S. C. (Salem)—Mulberry rose, suffused salmon with wax yellow at base of petals. The blooms are of immense size and are held on best of stems. This is a true prize winner. Height, 6 feet. Tuber $2.00


AILSA BELLE (Hulin)—Informal of raspberry red with a shade lighter on the reverse. Wonderful as a cut flower with stems as long as you wish. Everyone likes this beauty. Tuber $2.00


AMERICAN PURITY (J. Nuneviller)—Glistening white. True semi-cactus type with absolutely straight stems which are in proportion to the size of the huge blossoms and clean foliage. Height, 5 feet. Tuber $1.00


BALLEGO’S SURPRISE S. C. (Ballego)—One of the most beautiful whites. A Seedling of Frau O’Bracht which already has made a fine record. Height, 4 feet. Tuber $1.50


BALTIMORE BELLE S. C.—The royal robe of Caesar could not compare with the beauty and lustre of the purple-red glow of this new and magnificent Dahlia. Tuber $2.00


BETSY L. I. D. (Lewis-Parrella)—Color, Tyrian pink and Tyrian rose with orange buff. Pointed petals. A beautiful and attractive Dahlia of medium size, 6 to 7 inches. On fine strong stems, flowers facing. Plenty of blooms can be cut from a single plant all thru the season, insect resisting foliage and an easy grower. We highly recommend this Dahlia not only to the amateur grower, but also to the florist trade. Tuber $2.50


BLUE RIVER (Salem) F. D.—The name is very appropriate for this dahlia. Color, deep lilac or bluish mauve. The nearest to blue dahlia we have seen. Good size blooms on fine stems. Height, 4 feet. Tuber $1.00


BLUE HORIZON I. D.—French violet or rich lavender with bluish cast. Stems long, plant tall. Tuber $2.50


CALIFORNIA IDOL I. D. (Ballay)—Clear, bright, self-colored yellow. In size it ranks with the very largest, growing to 14 inches and yet is an extremely refined flower in every sense. Height, 4½ feet. Tuber 75c


CARL DAHL I. D. (Scott)—A graceful giant flower. Can easily be grown to 12 inches or more. Color, apricot buff, reverse old rose, with a concentration of old rose at center. A free bloomer, with fine stems. Tuber $1.00


COL. A. G. RUDD I. D. (Geneva Gardens)—Magnificent color, carmine mahogany red with darker center. Ramrod stems that hold the blooms at just the right angle. A point scoring dahlia in the garden or on the exhibition table. Size 12 inches by 7½ inches deep. Bushes are of medium height, branching low, producing long canes. Tuber $2.00


CHEROKEE BRAVE I. D. (Ricks-Dahliadel)—Color, ox-blood red that holds its color in the hottest sun. Blooms average 11 inches or better. Height of plant, 5½ feet. Tuber $1.00


CAROLINE KERNOCHAN I. D. (Fioretti-Parrella)—This medium-size dahlia which for the last three years has been a sensation at the A.D.S. N. Y. Shows and a constant winner of first, special and medal. For those who have seen this dahlia no introduction is necessary. But for those who have not seen it, let me say it is something entirely different from what you have ever seen before. The blend of the color combination is entirely new and unusually exquisite. No words can give an accurate description. Color—center pale Lemon Yellow. Outer petals blushed deep Rose Red. A fine growing plant with insect-resisting foliage. Blooms are held facing on long cane-like stems. Size of blooms 7 inches. Height 4½ ft. An Honor Roll dahlia. Tuber $5.00 Plant $2.50


CAROL LEE S. C. (Far West)—A large flower of 10 to 12 inches on nice long stems with its petals twisting and rolling together at the ends, with a high center giving it a beautiful formation. Color almost white with mallow pink along veins. Bush about 3½ to 4 feet, with good foliage. On Col. Eddy’s Honor Roll. Tuber $5.00 Plant $2.50


CLARA CARDER I. D.—Certainly one of the best, and a great exhibition variety, of clear cyclamen pink; largest flowers on great stems. Tuber 75¢



CLARA HOOK St. C. to S. C. (Wolbert-Rocky River)—The color is golden-yellow, lightly suffused apricot on outer petals. Blooms 9 to 11 inches of excellent substance. A fine keeper when cut. Bushes tall, with glossy dark green foliage. A free bloomer. Winner of the highest seedling honor bestowed by the American Dahlia Society, the Derrill W. Hart Medal, awarded for the highest average score at three trial grounds. CLARA HOOK is the current winner in the large bloom division. Tuber $7.50 Plants $3.50


COLIN KELLY, JR. (Salem 85A)—1943. Bloom 12 x 5, Bush 4½ ft. One of the largest new phlox pink dahlias. Potash is recommended to help stems hold flowers in wet weather. On Honor Rolls. Best bloom in the 1943 New York Show. Tuber $2.00


COLOR SKETCH F. D.—A cut flower type of wonderful color and rare beauty. Deep rose pink with stripes and blotches of white. Extra stiff stems and fine keeper. Several times a winner. Tuber $2.00


CORALCACTUS (Bennett-Beckmann) Ruschmohr—Incurved cactus. Beautiful shade of coral pink. Profuse bloomer, blooming from early August till frost. Had most outstanding record this past season. American Home Achievement Medal winner in N. J. State Show and Greater St. Louis Show. Runner-up in Washington Show. Winnings in individual classes which include N. Y., Scranton, Washington, St. Louis and L. I. Shows. Certificate winner in Storrs. Listed on the 3 Honor Rolls. One of the outstanding dahlias in our garden. Tuber $3.50 Plant $1.50


CROWNING GLORY I. C. (S. D. G.)—This dahlia upon opening appears somewhat on the semi-cactus type, but as it develops the edges of the petals fall back and roll forming quills which gradually incurve. It is rose pink with a cream center and the most beautiful and artistic dahlia. Blooms are 12 inches and over with good depth, on long straight stems. Height, 6 feet. Tuber $2.50


CROYDEN SUPERBA I. D.—Yellow. Very large. Tuber $3.50 Plants $1.50



DIRECTOR MARSHALL A. HOWE F. D. (Parrella-Hulin-Blamer) — This is what we call a perfect dahlia. A fine formation, beautiful color, exceptional fine stem and the very best of foliage. Prize-winning wherever shown. Also, a certificate winner from the Georgia Trial Ground. Color, general effects velvety tyrian-rose; in detail, the color is a cardinal red overlaying mulberry. The red fades as the end of the petal is approached, showing the undercolor of mulberry purple. To the whole flower, there is a cast of red cerise. The petals fall back almost to the stem, giving a ball effect. Height of plant, 4½ feet. Tuber $1.50


DAHLIA CRAFT S. C. (Modern Dahlia Gardens) THE UNBEATEN CHAMPION. A light canary yellow, 10 in. to 12 in., to 8 in. deep, long, graceful stems, hold flowers erect, an ideal keeper. Bush 5 ft. Tuber $2.00


D-DAY F. D. — 7 x 4. A soft one-tone pink. This is the only dahlia in this color except “Everybody’s Favorite.” A very excellent cut flower with long branches and long stems. Awarded a special prize for keeping qualities at New York Show in 1944 after being delayed en route, was out of water forty-four hours, arriving the afternoon of the second day of the Show. Received good scores at Storrs and East Lansing and scored 86.2 at Ohio, where it was the highest scoring dahlia for 1944. On Eastern Seed & Bulb Co. Tuber $2.00


DAHLIAMUM I. D. (Chemar) — A very large, deep flower of cadmium apricot with a golden sheen. Stems are strong, carrying the flower on top. Tuber $1.50


DAN’L DEL ROI ALBERT F. D. — Purple-tipped white, very outstanding. Tuber $1.00


DIXIE’S WINE DOT I. D. — A clear white flecked and splashed with wine red. Similar to Haslerova, except that it is more informal and larger. Blooms average 10” to 12”. Stems are long and stiff on a 5 to 7-foot brush. Tuber $3.00 Plant $1.50


DARCY SAINSBURY F. D. — One of the finest whites we ever grew. This dahlia came to us from AUSTRALIA. This is a champion, without exaggerating. The immense blooms are erect on cane-like stems, facing sideways. Height of plants 4½ feet. Tuber $1.00


DR. KENNETH TAYLOR I. D. (Fioretti-Parrella) — This is an unusually fine dahlia which produces plenty of fine blooms, averaging 8 to 9 inches in diameter with great depth. It is a pleasure to grow as the plant is perfect, stem is excellent, foliage, insect resistant and blooms are held facing and on top of best of stems. Color, scarlet red with bronze sheen and reverse of orange buff, showing as petals twist. Height, 4 to 5 feet. Tuber $2.50


DREAM GIRL I. D. (Kelly-Parrella) — Color, cadmium yellow and flame scarlet blend. Lots of substance, thick wrinkled and pointed petals. Plant, vigorous grower with fine branching habit. Can cut from 15 to 20 blooms or more from a single plant. Average size from 7 to 9 inches on cane-like stem. Flowers facing and on top. This beautiful dahlia attracted a lot of attention at our Garden this season. Height of plant 5 feet. On Mr. Dudley’s Honor Roll. Tuber $5.00 Plant $2.50

DAVE PLATT F. D. to Ball (Fioretti-Parrella) — Color, white with flush of mallow pink at center. In offering this dahlia, we believe that we have one of the finest florist dahlias. I’m sure this will replace some of the existing varieties. Judging from the request of the New York Florist Club, which was as follows: “The judges indicated that they would like to see this exhibit again with the required 25 blooms as it has unusual merit.” Average blooms three to four inches. A vigorous grower with fine branching habit. Plenty blooms can be cut from this variety throughout the season, very early bloomer. We believe this is one of the finest cut flowers for the florist trade.


NOTE: Dave Platt received gold medal at the New York Florist Club, Hotel Penn., October 14, 1946. Also, first prize in the seedling class at Jamaica, Long Island 1945 Dahlia Show. On Mr. Dudley’s Honor Roll. Height of plant, four to five feet. Tuber $3.50 Plant $1.75


DEAN SHURTLEFF I. D. — Red, very large. Tuber $3.50 Plant $1.50


DELROSE (Slocum-Dixie) I. D. — 10 in. x 6 in. White with yellow border on each side of petal. The deep yellow border gives the blooms plenty of contrast. Received Certificate of Merit, East Lansing in 1941. On Midwest Honor Roll 1942. Due to the illness and death of Mr. Slocum, it was not introduced at that time. Tuber $5.00 Plant $2.50

DOROTHY SCHMIDT (Parrella-Blamer-Hulin) — A double Prize Winner at the A. D. S. Show in New York. This beautiful lilac shading to lavender-colored semi-cactus received the coveted Leonard Barron Memorial Trophy, which is offered for the best medium type dahlia variety. Also a Special Silver Medal Certificate. Blooms average 7 inches in diameter and 4 inches in depth. It was described by some of the experts as of almost perfect form. Pure lilac with a bluish tint. Height of plant about 4½ feet. Tuber $3.00 Plant $1.50


EVELYN CHANDLER S. C. — Large golden apricot. Tuber $1.50


EDITH WILLKIE S. C. (Tooker) — Color, pure white. This beautiful exhibition dahlia won the “American Home Achievement Medal.” Blooms are of an immense size, from 12 to 15 inches in diameter. Regardless of its size, blooms are finely formed and are borne on cane-like stems. This particular variety attracted a lot of attention at the New York World’s Fair, 1940, as well as at the A. D. S. Show, 1941. We recommend this dahlia very highly. Tuber $3.50 Plants $1.50


EVENTIDE I. D. (Hillside Farm) — Here is a most unusual dahlia. A rich violet-purple with outer petals streaked lighter purple, end of each petal is deeply lacerated. Blooms are of large size. Height, 4 feet. Tuber $1.50


FAITHFUL (Dahliadel) — White Semi-Cactus. Under normal culture blooms are 9 to 10 inches by 4 to 5 inches deep. Bush grows sturdy with well-proportioned stems. Easy to grow with blooms always full centered. Listed on the Midwest Honor Roll. Tuber $3.50 Plant $1.50


FIREBALL F. D. (Bissell) — Color, a brilliant scarlet which does not burn or fade. The foliage is heavy and absolutely insect-resisting. Height about 5 feet. Tuber 75¢

FIVE STAR GENERAL (Ramage) Ruschmohr—Formal Decorative. Another one of our giant introductions, this dahlia is a blend of Amaranth Pink blushing into Tyrian Pink, centering to Maize Yellow. The strong, sturdy plant bears blooms on long stiff stems, with flowers measuring 11 to 12 inches. It has received a Certificate of Merit at Storrs and East Lansing and is listed on three Honor Rolls. Tuber $5.00 Plant $2.50


FLORISTS BEAUTY F. D. (Parrella)—It brings me great pleasure to offer this exceptional commercial bi-color dahlia to our customers and the florist trade. Florists Beauty is a variety known for its unparalleled keeping quality after being cut. To illustrate, four blooms cut on Monday, Oct. 1st, remained in superior condition when shown the following Saturday, Oct. 6th, at the Long Island Dahlia Society Show. Both my entries, one in the seedling class and the other in the regular class, received first prize. The blooms, in Amaranth Purple with fine white tips and pointed petals, measure 6 to 7 inches and are held on long, perfect stems. All flowers face outward. An Honor Roll dahlia.


NOTE: Florists Beauty received a Gold Medal with a score of 88 points at the New York Florist Club on October 14, 1946. Tuber $2.50


FOREST FIRE I. D. (Dahliadel)—The petals of this dahlia transition from lemon yellow to rich scarlet toward the tips. It grows to a height of 4 feet. Tuber 75¢


FRECKLES I. D. (Kemp)—A novelty dahlia with lemon yellow petals speckled and striped with peach red. The plant stands at approximately 4.5 feet tall. Tuber $1.00


FRED SPRINGER F. D.—Large scarlet red flowers characterize this dahlia. With short stems covering the bush, the plant resembles a rose bush with gigantic roses. Ideal for borders or hedges. Tuber 75¢


FREIDA GEORGE I. D. (Australia)—Regarded as one of the most beautiful dahlias, Freida George displays a delicate color palette of helio and cream. Its large blooms sit atop wonderful stems, making it one of the finest varieties. Tuber $1.00


GENERAL JOHN J. PERSHING S. C. (Ward-Ruschmohr)—A sport of the ever-prize-winning dahlia Virginia Rute, this variety boasts a new and pleasing color combination of coral and jasper red with a chrome flush. It has received a Certificate of Merit in East Lansing and Fairmont, W. Va., in 1943, as well as The American Home Achievement Medal in St. Louis in the same year. Tuber $3.00 Plant $1.50


GINGER ROGERS I. D.—Deep sulphur yellow characterizes this dahlia. Tuber $3.00 Plant $1.50


GLAMOUR I. D. (Salem)—A truly massive dahlia, Glamour features a vibrant purple hue with deep amaranth pink edges. Standing at 5 feet tall, this variety has earned numerous awards. Tuber $2.00


GOLDEN STANDARD S. C. (Downs)—This showy variety boasts large golden tan blooms, tinted with shades of amber and bronze. The flowers are held facing on long stiff stems. Tuber $1.00


GOLDEN WEDDING S. C. (Hulin)—A golden-hued dahlia with excellent stem strength, Golden Wedding is a prolific bloomer with good substance. Tuber $2.50


GRAND SLAM (Hulin-Parrella)—Recognized as the best true-to-type Semi-Cactus, Grand Slam showcases a unique color combination of bright rose, citron yellow, and light pink. Its large blooms, measuring 9 to 10 inches, are held on sturdy stems. Tuber $1.50


GREAT DIVIDE (Semi-Cactus), A Tooker Origination—Winner of the Home Achievement Medal at A.D.S. Annual Dahlia Show, this dahlia features a blend of yellow at the center, transitioning beautifully to shell pink on the outer petals. It grows to a height of 5 feet. Tuber $5.00 Plant $2.50

GREATER GLORY S. C. (Salem)—A dahlia with deep rose-pink coloring, occasionally shading to sulphur yellow at the center. This variety boasts a strong, healthy bush with fine foliage and excellent stem and bloom quality. Tuber $1.50


HILDA FIORETTI S. C. to I. D. (Fioretti-Parrella)—This captivating dahlia was greatly admired by visitors at the A.D.S. Show in New York. Known for its deep rose-pink color, Hilda Fioretti features deeper rose-colored stripes and fine apricot yellow tips. Its large blooms, measuring 9 to 10 inches in diameter, are held on sturdy stems, making it a standout in any garden. Tuber $3.50 Plant $1.75

H. R. S. I. D. (Seal)—Featuring a consistent golden yellow color throughout, this dahlia stands at a height of 5 feet. Tuber 50¢


HOOSIER MARVEL (Wolfe Dahlia Gardens)—This giant yellow S.C. to L.D. bloom, measuring 14 by 7 inches, resembles Lord of Autumn. With flowers facing at a 45-degree angle on good stems, this dahlia stands approximately 5.5 to 6 feet tall. Tuber $3.50 Plant $1.75


HUNT’S VELVET WONDER I. D. (Hunt’s-Burnett Bros.)—Boasting a bright violet burgundy color, this dahlia produces blooms up to 15 inches in size. It stands erect on a fine stem, reaching a height of 5 feet. Tuber $1.00


IVORY PRINCESS S. C. (Hawkins-Ruschmohr)—This grand dahlia features a brand new color: a beautiful shade of ivory. Its very large blooms are held on stiff stems, and the variety has received numerous awards in various shows. Tuber $3.00 Plant $1.50

JOANSEHILTIES, JR lee D: (Samuels-Parrella)—An unusual bi-color dahlia with blooms averaging 7 to 8 inches. The deep mallow pink petals feature white tips with lacinated edges. An excellent grower, this plant stands 4 to 5 feet tall. Tuber $2.50


JOAN FERENZ I. D. (Rindfleisch-Ruschmohr)—A striking blend of chrome yellow and spinal pink, Joan Ferenz boasts blooms measuring 11 to 12 inches. It was awarded the American Home Achievement Medal at the New York Show of the American Dahlia Society. Tuber $3.50 Plant $1.75


JAMES KIRBY I. D.—Characterized by a rich ruby red color. Tuber 75¢


JANE COWL I. D.—Featuring a glistening bronzy buff and gold color blend, which deepens at the center. This dahlia grows to a height of 6 feet. Tuber 50¢


JANE LAUSCHE S. C. (Rocky River)—This bi-color dahlia, with rosy mauve petals tipped in white, is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful varieties. Tuber $5.00 Plant $2.50


JEAN TRIMBEE S. C.—This outstanding dahlia showcases a rich petunia violet color, with many blooms reaching close to 12 inches in size. Standing at approximately 5.5 feet tall, it is a remarkable variety. Tuber $1.00


JERSEY BEAUTY F. D.—Large, pure pink blooms on long erect stems characterize this variety, which remains in great demand as a florist flower. With a height of 6 feet, it is a good keeper. Tuber 50¢


JERSEY’S DAINTY (Incurved Cactus)—Regarded as one of the best white cactus dahlias to date, Jersey’s Dainty is a free bloomer and a good keeper. Tuber 75¢


JERSEY’S WHITE BEAUTY F. D. (White)—This white commercial variety boasts a wonderful keeping quality and strong stems. With pure white, free and prolific blooms, this dahlia reaches a height of 5 feet. Tuber 75¢


JOSEPHINE G. S. C. (Grosscross)—Featuring a pleasing true rose pink color with soft petals tipped in yellow, Josephine G. stands at approximately 4.5 feet tall. Tuber 75¢


JUSSIANT I. C. (De Royter)—This lovely dahlia showcases a lavender hue in every respect. With sturdy growth and abundant blooms, it is a reliable performer. Standing at a height of 5 feet, the plant is always covered with flowers. Tuber $1.00


JOHN ADAM KERNOCHAN Fie D: (Fioretti)—A medium-sized bi-color dahlia, this variety was the center of attraction at our display at the A.D.S. show. It has received first prize and a Bronze Medal, featuring garnet red blooms with white tips. The flowers, measuring an average of 8 by 5 inches, are held facing on long, graceful stems with excellent substance. Tuber $2.50


KATIE K. I. D. (Lakeside Gardens)—A clear pink, of large size on long stems. I think it is the greatest exhibition in pink. Tuber $1.25


KENTUCKY—Salmon Pink. Tuber 50¢


KELVIN I. D.—One of the greatest dahlias to come out of Australia. Blooms are large and massive, held facing up on strong stems. The color is buff heavily suffused carmine rose, giving a general color effect of peach pink. Strong plants with exceptionally coarse, broad foliage. Plant $1.50

KIMIKAGE I. C. (Parrella)—In introducing this lovely dahlia, we are positive of offering something real different. Kimikage isn’t a large dahlia, but one of the most beautiful in color and very different in formation. The petals of this dahlia twist in such a fine manner that frankly it is hard to describe. You must see this dahlia in bloom to appreciate its real beauty. Color, lemon yellow. Light green foliage, insect resisting. Height of plant, 4.5 feet. Tuber $2.50


KING PETER F. D.—This is one of the most beautiful and delicately blended colored dahlias. White tipped lavender. Blooms average from 7 to 8 inches and are held on cane-like stem, flowers facing. Height, 5 feet. Tuber $1.25


KIRSTEN FLAGSTAD (Brown-Rocky River)—An artistic flower of buff with gold and apricot shadings. Early and prolific. Should be the first in your garden. Tuber $3.50. Plant $1.75


LYNN FONTANNE S. C. to I. D. (Lee-Parrella)—Exhibition. Blooms 13.5 inches by 9.5 inches. Spectrum red shades of carmine toward tips, with chrome yellow petaloids. The petaloids give a relief to the vivid red and soften the general tone color. Flowers facing on best of stems. Tuber $3.50. Plant $1.50

MARGARET DUROSS—Was named in honor of an official of the N. Y. Journal-American. This is a grand dahlia in every respect, and it was immensely admired by the visitors at our garden this past season. The color of this lovely dahlia is amaranth pink with amaranth purple shadings. The petals are lacinated, giving it a pin cushion effect. Blooms average about 8 inches, or better, are of good substance and best of stems. Winner of a bronze medal at the A.D.S. show in 1942. Height of plant, 4.5 feet. Tuber $2.50


MOON-GLO F. D. (Parrella-Hulin)—Color, lemon yellow. High center which gives it a distinct glow. Height, 4.5 feet. Tuber $1.50


MRS. E. J. (Rocky River, R. C.)—Clear brilliant pink with white centers and very lightly tipped white. Exceptionally good substance. Tuber $5.00. Plant $2.50

In fact, one well grown bloom shown at The Community Flower Show of Richmond Hill, L. I., on September 9, 1944, received first and special prizes for the largest and most perfect bloom in the show.
